Dental Care for Cats
At Aspen Grove, we believe that dental health equals overall health, but cats’ dental health can be really tough to take care of at home. Dr. Bobby Cawthron, the Lead Veterinarian at Aspen Grove, talks us through how to care for cat’s dental health at home by including recommended products and techniques in this video.
Treat Training For Teeth Brushing
Treat training can be very beneficial for teeth brushing. Treats will encourage your cat to come to you when you ask and be still during teeth brushing. It allows them to learn that teeth brushing can be a fun thing to do because they earn treats when they sit and stay.
Toothbrush & Toothpaste
Introduce a toothbrush and toothpaste to your cat slowly. It is best to start by allowing them to get used to you touching in and around their mouth before putting anything in it. Once they are comfortable, we recommend a product called C.E.T which is manufactured by Virbac.
Dental treats should be given on a daily basis. They should be crunchy, so the treat rubs on the teeth and gums to break down plaque colonies.
You can mix powders into your cat’s kibble. These powders can be used every day to provide a gentle abrasiveness to break down plaque colonies. We recommend Perio Support which is manufactured by VetriScience.
Daily dental care is essential for your cat’s overall health. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us!
